The Centre of Croatian Traditional Instruments (CTG-HR)

Croatian traditional musical instruments and music

What we Do

1. INTERNATIONAL BAGPIPE FESTIVAL

The first CTG-HR project was the International Bagpipe Festival, which was first held in Mihovljan in 2007. Since then, it has been regularly held every year in several places around Croatia.

So far, the festival has been held in the following places in Croatia: Mihovljan, Zagreb, Bjelovar, Belec, Gospić, Benkovac, Cres. In this way, the Center significantly contributes to the preservation and promotion of playing bagpipes and related musical instruments in Croatia.

Over the past 16 years, hundreds of bagpipers and players of other traditional musical instruments from almost all over the world have performed at the festival.

2. WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

A significant project of CTG-HR is organization and management of workshops and seminars on playing and making Croatian traditional musical instruments.

So far, hundreds of seminars and workshops have been held throughout Croatia, and over 1,000 participants of all ages, from children to the elderly, have participated in them.

Seminars and workshops are regularly held every year throughout Croatia with great interest from young people and with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia.

3. RESTORATION OF OLD MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Many traditional musical instruments have almost disappeared. No one knew how to make or play them anymore.

Thanks to the work of CTG-HR and Stjepan Večković, many musical instruments have been brought back to life.

Some musical instruments have not been played or made for more than 100 years.

The following musical instruments were restored: four voiced and five voiced dude, a few types of double flute, gunge, side flute, trstenice (croatian pan flute), triple flute, quadruple flute, a few types of old bagpipes.

4. CROATIAN BAGPIPE ORCHESTRA

The Croatian Bagpipe Orchestra operates as part of CTG-HR. For years, he has been successfully promoting the Croatian tradition of bagpipe playing by performing at all major bagpipe festivals across Europe.

5. PUBLICATIONS

CTG-HR has published two books on traditional musical instruments Gajde and Dude (2015. and 2017.) and two CDs.

Several DVDs of the International Bagpipe Festival have also been released.

6. EU PROJECTS

From 2015 to 2017, CTG-HR was the leader in the project ‘’EUROPEAN BAGPIPE EDUCATIONAL FORUM – building EU methodology for preservation, playing and building of traditional bagpipe instruments’’.

We are currently part of the project ”The Network of European Bagpipers”
